Groundwork Lawncare pairs solid horticultural know-how with real design thinking to build outdoor spaces that fit your lifestyle, make the most of your available space, and hold up to local conditions year after year.
Groundwork Lawncare started in 2009, founded by landscape architects and certified horticulturalists who felt West Yarmouth, MA deserved better outdoor design work. At the time, the standard approach was installing whatever plants were cheapest, with little thought given to long-term performance, visual coherence, or the specific microclimate of each property.
Sixteen years later, we treat landscape design as an actual discipline, not an afterthought. Every project opens with a full site analysis — sunlight, drainage, existing plant life, soil makeup, and what you actually want out of the space. That analysis shapes a design built specifically for your property, not pulled from a generic template.
Every selection fits your actual soil, light, and climate — not just what looks good on a shelf or happens to be in stock.
We plan around how plants will fill in over three to five years, so the landscape looks just as good in year four as it did on install day.
The people who design your landscape are the same ones installing and maintaining it, so nothing gets lost in translation across seasons.
From the first design sketch to ongoing upkeep, every service reflects the same commitment to careful work and results that last.

Stories from West Yarmouth, MA property owners who invested in real landscape design and ongoing care.
The landscape Groundwork Lawncare designed for us went beyond anything we pictured. The plants are thriving two seasons in and every visitor comments on it.
We had a steep, awkward backyard that other companies wouldn't touch. Groundwork designed a terraced garden that's become the most-used spot on our property.
Their plant selection was genuinely impressive — everything actually suits our soil and light conditions. My garden has never been this healthy.
Groundwork redesigned our office campus grounds three years back. It's needed almost no unplanned fixes since. The planning behind it was excellent.
Our designer took real time to understand how we use our yard before drafting anything. The finished space reflects how we live, not a generic concept.
The patio and landscape lighting they installed turned our backyard into a space we use year-round. Great craftsmanship, and all the wiring was handled by qualified staff.
Landscape design is a real investment of time and money, so we want the process to be clear before you commit to anything. Feel free to call us with questions.
1 (866) 996-5431It starts with a site visit — our designer walks the property, checks existing conditions, and talks through your goals. From there we put together a design proposal, including the fee for the design work itself.
Yes — design and installation are billed separately. The design fee covers the site analysis, plant selection, and the finished design document. Installation gets its own quote once the design is approved.
Definitely. A lot of our work involves redesigning, refreshing, or expanding what's already planted. Our assessment tells us what's worth keeping and where new additions would strengthen the whole design.
It depends on the scope. A garden bed refresh might take one to three days, while a full backyard overhaul with hardscaping could run two to four weeks. Every proposal comes with a detailed timeline.
We advise on permit needs for hardscaping work and help with standard residential permit applications. More complex structural projects may need an engineer's review, which we can help coordinate.
New plantings need steady watering while they get established. We provide a written care guide with every install, and post-install maintenance plans are available if you'd like ongoing support.
We back all installation work with a workmanship guarantee. Plant warranties depend on proper watering and care during the establishment period, which we go over in detail during your consultation.
Yes — we share the initial draft for your feedback and work in revisions before finalizing anything. Minor changes are included in the design fee; bigger scope changes may call for a revised proposal.
